There’s no question wine country is California’s best place for sampling some of the state’s finest juice. In spring and summer, however, Santa Rosa is a great destination for lovers of arts and entertainment. So, if wine, music, and wine (did we mention wine?) are three of your favorite things, you'll definitely want to experience several of the best musical events taking place this season in and around Santa Rosa:
Santa Rosa Symphony
The musical arts are alive and well in Santa Rosa. Few cities in America of comparable size support a regional symphony so vital, dynamic, and innovative. As the Santa Rosa Symphony gains a national reputation for stellar sound, bold excellence and community engagement, Sonoma County forges an identity as a place in love with classical music. Recently, the Santa Rosa Symphony proudly announced Francesco Lecce-Chong will serve as its fifth Music Director beginning with the 2018-2019 season. A captivating presence on the podium, Lecce-Chong has garnered acclaim for his dynamic performances, commitment to innovative programming and passion for community engagement. The Santa Rosa Symphony is the Resident Orchestra performing in Weill Hall at the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University.
Four years running, the Railroad Square Music Festival is a free day of music in Santa Rosa's historic Railroad Square. The Railroad Square Music Festival is a project of a non-profit organization dedicated to the belief that people need beautiful, intimate performance spaces to share their ideas, stories, and arts. Taking place from noon to 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 10th this free, all ages event celebrates and shines a spotlight on the North Bay creative community with a day of music in the heart of Santa Rosa.
Country Summer Music Festival
As Northern California's largest country music festival, the Country Summer Music Festival features A-list name acts, sprawled across the grassy, five-acre Carnival field at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa. State-of-the-art staging and sound are enhanced by two 16-foot video walls. Concessions serve beer, wine, spirits and Wine Country food alongside an array of western-themed festival activities.
Sonoma Harvest Music Festival
The producers of the annual BottleRock Napa Valley festival will present a new two-day Sonoma Harvest Music Festival in September at the B.R. Cohn Winery in Glen Ellen, formerly the site of the long-running B.R. Cohn Charity Fall Music Festival. While the new festival will continue BottleRock’s emphasis on fine local food, wine, and craft beer — in this case featuring all Sonoma County products — the setting will be more intimate and the music will be in the Americana and the indie vein.
Transcendence Theater Company “Broadway Under the Stars”
Transcendence Theater Company’s "Broadway Under the Stars" is a series of award-winning concerts featuring accomplished Broadway and Hollywood performers under the stars in the majestic open-air winery ruins in Jack London State Historic Park. Past season includes Broadway performers from The Book Of Mormon, Wicked, Les Miserables, 42nd Street, Hairspray, Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia and more. Each evening begins with pre-show picnicking on the great lawn, alongside the vineyards of the park (with multiple wineries pouring and food and wine available for purchase), and concludes with an evening of inspirational entertainment
