Contemporary Ecopoetics: Beyond Nature Poetry - Presentation by Lynn Keller
The Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation invites the public to explore how contemporary poets confront environmental crises and injustice in Lynn Keller's presentation on ecopoetics.
While traditional nature poetry celebrates the beauty of plants, animals, and landscapes, many contemporary poets find such portrayals inadequate to address pressing environmental realities. Keller will highlight alternative forms of environmental writing that respond to ecological degradation and injustice, featuring works by poets including Lucille Clifton, Allison Cobb, Brenda Hillman, Evelyn Reilly, Ed Roberson, Juliana Spahr, and Brian Teare.
Lynn Keller is Emerita Professor of English and former director of the Center for Culture, History, and Environment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Now living in Sebastopol, she is also a printer at North Bay Letterpress Arts. Her most recent book is Recomposing Ecopoetics: North American Poetry of the Self-Conscious Anthropocene (University of Virginia Press, 2017).
