While the world—and travel—has been different the past several years, Santa Rosa, the urban heart of Sonoma County that we know, and love, remains the same. Though we are biased, we think that Santa Rosa is more beautiful and welcoming than ever. For many years, visitors have trusted us with some of their most memorable moments, and we do not take that lightly. We know that trust is more important now than ever.
As you are aware, for the past 2+ years the travel and tourism industry worldwide has been decimated due to the pandemic. Like most destinations, Sonoma County health and safety restrictions severely limited the ability of people to travel. As a result, Visit Santa Rosa's operating budget has been nearly depleted. It must be replenished before we can resume pre-pandemic marketing activities again. To do so, we need stable, consistent hotel revenues as we receive our funding from the City of Santa Rosa’s tourism occupancy tax (TOT).
While we are seeing encouraging indicators that traveler confidence is returning, we need to have several quarters of growth and positive economic trends before we can fully commit to allocating budget to our marketing programs and entertaining travel writers, journalists, and influencers like you.
That is not to say we won’t be inviting travel writers, journalists, and influencers to our destination, rather, we will be allocating the budget we do have judiciously so that we maximize our investment.
