The city is home to the second largest Pride festival outside of San Francisco and hosts LGBTQ+-friendly events year-round, ensuring the celebration of community extends well beyond Pride Month.
Local businesses also embody this spirit of acceptance. BREW Coffee & Beer, a lesbian-owned taproom and café, serves up craft beer, cider, and coffee in a laid-back, inclusive setting. Just down the road, Noble Folk Ice Cream & Pie Bar—founded by life partners Ozzy Jimenez and Christian Sullberg—crafts inventive ice creams and scratch-made desserts, proudly flying both the rainbow and transgender flags. Beyond the city, Sonoma County recently launched its first LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce, further underscoring the region’s commitment to fostering inclusivity in both business and community life.
And just a short drive away, Guerneville has earned its place as the West Coast’s LGBTQ+ playground. Nestled along the Russian River, it’s home to legendary gatherings like Women’s Weekends, Gay Wine Weekend, Lazy Bear Week, and Russian River Pride. The town’s progressive roots run deep—Equality Vines, founded by Jim Obergefell (the lead plaintiff in the U.S. Supreme Court case that legalized same-sex marriage), continues to champion LGBTQ+ and social justice causes through wine.
