Santa Rosa’s Safari West Welcomes Baby Rhino Named After Ozzy Osbourne
Sonoma County's premier wildlife destination, Safari West, is once again making headlines with the birth of a southern white rhinoceros calf, an exciting and symbolic new chapter in their ongoing wildlife conservation efforts. Born on July 22, 2025, the same day the world lost rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, the newborn rhino has been affectionately named Ozzy in his honor.
This healthy male calf is the second southern white rhino born at Safari West, joining big brother Otto, born in April 2023. Proud mom Eesha, a 20-year-old rhino, is doing well and bonding with her new baby under the expert care of the Safari West animal team.

The calf’s father, Ongava, is on a long-term conservation breeding loan from the Indianapolis Zoo, which shares ownership of both Ongava and Ozzy. This partnership is part of a collaborative effort to protect and grow the population of this near-threatened species.
Located in the heart of Sonoma County wine country, Safari West is a must-visit attraction in Santa Rosa, drawing nature lovers, families, and eco-tourists from around the world. Known as the "Sonoma Serengeti," Safari West offers visitors the rare opportunity to see African wildlife up close—without leaving Northern California.
Whether you're searching for family-friendly things to do in Santa Rosa, unique outdoor adventures, or unforgettable California wildlife tours, don’t miss the chance to meet baby Ozzy and experience the magic of Safari West.
